Author Gossip(7) and Cover Coveting(2)

As a reader I always want the download on what's going on with authors. Do they have new books coming out, how the latest tour going, any thing juicy! So, I decided to bring the news to my readers. I'm lurking around all of those author blogs anyway, might as well do something productive.

WarpedWarped is a debut title that I have been itching to get my hands on, unfortunately it’s only a hardback release so I’m holding off until paperback.  School Library Journal will be putting in a star review and here's the last bit.

This absorbing and mesmerizing read has it all–fantasy, romance, witchcraft, life-threatening situations, detective work, chase scenes, and a smattering of violence. Imaginative and compelling, it’s impossible to put down.–Genevieve Gallagher, Charlottesville High School, VA
Needless to say, but I will of course:  Woot!! Team Unicorn!
I am absolutely thrilled!!!

Hereafter Speaking of debut books of the year, Hereafter by Tara Hudson is another title that’s caught my eye.  Hudson wants readers to get a chance to read her pride and joy.  That’s right ACRs people.

Check out the authors post to learn how to get the goods!  Click here.   Contest runs tell March 7th.

The Art of Seducing a Naked WerewolfThe reviews for HOW TO FLIRT WITH A NAKED WEREWOLF are in and the fans are loving it!  Usually I’m not in to these kind of comedy/paranormal romances, but it sounds really fun.

So if you’re one of the lucky ones who have already read the first book, an excerpt for the first one is already out!  Well at least is was supposed to be out as a little sneak peek of HOW TO FLIRT WITH A NAKED WEREWOLF, but there was some issues and it wasn’t included.  So Molly Harper has generously released an excerpt on her blog.  Just click here to get more on the Naked Werewolf fun!

City of Fallen Angels (Mortal Instruments, Book 4) Legions of fans everywhere I counting down the months, days, hours, minutes, and even seconds until the release of City of Fallen Angels.  That’s no exaggeration, have you seen all the counters out there?  This time I am beyond excited to not give you little paragraphs but a whole excerpt!!

So read Chapter 1 right now!!

Blood Wyne (Sisters of the Moon, Book 9) Yasmine Galenorn is celebrating that she writes KINKY SEX SCENES in her books, and she’s not stopping any time soon.  How is she celebrating?  By giving away two Amazon gift cards!

So help her celebrate those KINKY SEX SCENES just click here.

The Ghost and the Goth

The Ghost and the Goth ended up being a really great read for me, which was a bit of a surprise. (Check out my review here.)  So with the second book out and the third one on the way it’s sad to think that the fun will be coming to an end.  Luckily that’s not the news!  The author posted a little tidbit from Publishers Marketplace Announcement.

Author of The Ghost and the Goth Stacey Kade's THE RULES, about a girl who was raised as a genetic experiment hiding from her creators under the guise of being a "normal" sixteen-year-old, and the boy who tempts her to break the rules that confine her existence, to Christian Trimmer at Disney-Hyperion, in a very nice deal, in a two-book deal, for publication in Summer 2013, by Laura Bradford at Bradford Literary Agency (World English).

Shimmer: A Riley Bloom Book (Radiance)

Shimmer by Alyson Noel is on tour.  Without further babble here’s the tour dates.

My pretty ladies

Angelina’s Secret by Lisa Rogers

Source:  Jennifer L. Armentrout

Shera’s Thoughts:  Totally agree with Armentrout, it’s creepy beautiful!  I love how her shadow is being cast by the light coming in the window.  As a photographer I fully appreciate the artistic talent and thought that went into it.

Author’s Thoughts:

Okay. I am so excited about this cover and author, because I got to read a bit of this a little while ago and I FELL IN LOVE WITH IT.  Not to mention Lisa is such a sweet heart. You guys got to check this book out.
So here is the cover that was revealed earlier for Lisa Rogers' debut novel. Isn't it just creepy? - Jennifer L. Armentrout

The Gods of Dream by Daniel Arenson

Shera’s Thoughts:  This cover is fantasy.  Just looking at it makes me remember why I love Epic Fantasy so much.  It’s beyond stunning.

A hint of the far off land waiting to be explored.  The feather hair that’s just begging me to ask “Feather?”   The Hawk is so commanding.

Someone Elses Thoughts:

Every once in a while I will come across a cover that just takes my breath away.

I have not read this book yet, but the cover is just so pretty and  well done, I had to share it! – Far From Reality

In My Mailbox Vlog

I get to show of my goodies for the week! With In My Mailbox I also like to tell you where I found them, what kind of deals are up for grabs. Occasionally I'll even try a different method of buying books to see if it's faster and cheaper somewhere else. (This post also follows The Story Sirens' weekly meme, In My Mailbox.) At the moment I'm a poor college student so you might not see this post every Sunday. If it's not there, that means the book gods have frowned upon me.

Book Blogger Hop and Weekly Overview

Book Blogger Hop

To join in the fun just click on the image above.

"Do you ever wish you would

have named your blog

something different?"

Answering this question feels like a betrayal to my blog.

It took me forever to come up with a name for my blog.  Stuff like Book Blog, Urban Fantasy Corner, Epic Fantasy Books, and silly stuff like that with lots of variations with the word Fantasy in it.  After a while I decided to settle on something that would leave space for my blog to expand out side of my obvious love of Urban and Epic Fantasy.

The name Book Whispers doesn’t seem to have any variations from other bloggers so I’m really happy that way.  Sometimes I wish I would have picked something catchy like Fantasy Times or Fantasy Reader, but in the end I think I’m really satisfied with my title.

There is one name that I kind of still wonder “what if.”  Books and the Country.  Personally I think it rocks, but I was going to name my blog The Unicorn Collector before Book Whispers plopped into my head.  Clearly my blog naming skills may need some work.

Weekly Overview:

It has all the grandeur of the finest UF, and all the hot edgy romance of some of the best PNR out there.

  • My first official Cover Coveting post!!  The New Covers portion of Author Gossip will be going live, so new covers will be posted ASAP!  There are tons of yummy covers to see on this first Cover Coveting.

Cover Coveting: Vanished by Sophie Jordan

Just couldn't wait to get more covers to share, this is one of those covers you check on peroicically in goodreads to see when it gets updated!

Vanished (Firelight, Book 2) by Sophie Jordan

Source: goodreads

Shera's Thoughts:  It really is eye catching, it fits the series.  Yet it feels like a rip off from the first cover.  Same pose, scales by the eye, and slitted pupils.  The only thing missing is that eyecatching red hair.  I get theres a piont to keep the "feel" of the series in the cover.  However a little outside the box thinking would have really added to this cover.

Don't get me wrong, I'm still swooning over this cover!!  After all it is pretty.

Hit List by Laurell K. Hamilton

Source:  goodreads

Shera’s Thoughts:  It actually makes my want to poke out my own eyes.  The color scheme is cool, but what the fudge is going on with that chick?  All I can say is that this series suffer from BAD covers. First the slightly cool body shots in different colors, and weapons and cuffs objects.

Supernaturally by Kiersten White

Source:  goodreads

Shera’s Thoughts:  The cover model for this series is so gorgeous, and I love the way she looks against all that read.  The flowers look perfect, just like the cattails on the other cover.  Plus she has another cool dress on!  So shoot me, I like pretty dresses.

 Supernaturally_Front cover

Author’s Thoughts:

“So much pretty. The red! And the flowers! AND THE DRESS! And that line above Evie's head that I am very, very fond of! And can I just say again how much I love the model they picked for Evie? I especially love that you can see her eyes better in this one. They are exactly how I always pictured Evie's eyes "like streams of melting snow….But just when you thought you couldn't love this amazing red cover any more, I have EVEN MORE TO LOVE!  One of my favorite design aspects of my covers (aside from, well, everything) is that they wrap around so the image continues onto the back. THIS TIME WITH LIGHTNING.” – Kiersten White

So Silver Bright by Lisa Mantchey

Shera’s Thoughts:  These books are the perfection of ethereal beauty and fairy mischief.   Each is a treat  for the eyes.  I love how the fairies are always dancing about and the outfits are stunning.

 SoSilverBrightcoverforreveal

Author’s Thoughts:

“Once again, Jason Chan has created something incredibly beautiful and magical that wholly captures the essence of the book. Heapings of glitter and cupcakes upon his head, as well as Jean Feiwel and the art department at Feiwel & Friends for this:”

Jessica Rules the Dark Side

Source:  goodreads

Shera’s Thoughts:  The cover is so pretty, but it doesn’t fit the previous cover.  OK, it does fit clearly the couple the and the dancing.  It just doesn’t look modern, it looks like something for a historical.  Hey, for all I know it fits the book.
