Sunday Sweets

This posting follows The Story Sirens weekly meme, In My Mailbox.

Gosh, it hurts. Looking at my posts I haven't done a Sunday Sweets post since May 9.  I haven't bought any books for way over 2 weeks. It's safe to say I am an addict. I need to buy books! The addiction must be fed. Moving on . . .

I hit up Walmart on Saturday, and boom-baby, there were some good picks. (Not everything I was looking for though. ^_-

Demonkeepers (Final Prophecy, #4)
Demonkeepers (Final Prophecy, book 4)by Jessica Andersen

The shame. I own every book in the series, but have not read any of them. I plan to fix that soon so I don't keep taunting myself about it.

The Fallen 1: The Fallen and Leviathan (The Fallen, #1-2)
The Fallen 1: The Fallen and Leviathan (The Fallen, books 1-2) by Thomas E. Sniegoski

Wasn't sure about this title, but I needed to buy books. The blurb on the book sounds promising.

Spirit Bound (Vampire Academy, #5)
Spirit Bound (Vampire Academy, book 5) by Richelle Mead

At last, she's MINE!! Finally I can stop my fasting and read book 4! (Heads up, I'm not sure if this is for all Walmarts, but in the one I bought it it was 50% off. For hardback.)

The Treasure Keeper (Drakon, #4)
The Treasure Keeper (Drakon, book 4) by Shana Abé

This title has been floating around the blog sphere, but I hadn't been really interested in it. Then it caught my eyes on the shelves, the first paragraph was all I needed. Let me share it.

Something Dark is coiled around your heart. Something scaled and glistening, and ferociously beautiful. It has been with you all your days and nights, all your years, in all your thoughts, shaping every single movement: your hands, your lips, your respiration. It lives because you live. It lives because magic is real.

Yes. Chills of awsomeness.

That's all I've got, can't wait to see what everyone else got.

Wednesday Wishes

This is just a fun post that I can share books that I wish I had! This also follows BCC weekly meme, My Wishlist.

Ok, I confess I have bought all three of the previous books in the series. They look so cool though, so here's hoping they all rock!!
Blood Heat (Blood Lines, #4)
Blood Heat (Blood Lines, book 4)

Texas is heating up. . .

The summer heat wave that’s hit Rio Seco, Texas, has even the vampires complaining, but with Keira—the Kelly heir—home from Vancouver, the weather isn’t the only thing too hot to handle. Keira should be setting up her court and planning the big reception where she and her consort, vampire ruler Adam Nightwalker, will receive the magical leaders from the local area, but pomp and circumstance just aren’t Keira’s thing, especially not with trouble smoldering in her domain. A werewolf couple has mysteriously gone missing from a local pack, and when Keira is asked by their leader to investigate, she finds that some dissatisfied neighbors may have been taking—well—strong action against the wer community … action that could be repeated, and could involve Keira and those she loves. So, with the reception looming and danger fast blazing out of control, the pressure is on Keira to keep Texas safe for supernaturals. Sometimes, it’s just not that great to be Heir…

I saw this beauty on the shelf at Walmart. All I can say if the goose chills and panicked hand waving that I experienced in the store was any indication—I think I'm in love! Sadly when I ran to it, and picked it up it was hardback. *Sigh* Another paperback wait!

As if starting high school isn't hard enough. . .now Nick has to hide his new friends from his mom, his chainsaw from the principal, and keep the zombies and the demon Simi from eating his brains, all without getting grounded or suspended. How in the world is he supposed to do that?

Having only read the first book in the series, I think it's safe to say I love this series!
Arcane Circle (Persephone Alcmedi, #4)
Arcane Circle (Persephone Alcmedi, #4)

Meanwhile, the Witch Elders Council believes Seph is responsible for the death of their leader, and as if that isn’t enough, the house is being remodeled and Seph has promised her foster daughter Beverley a grand birthday party!

Ashamed yet again. I have the first one, but haven't read it yet. Awesome cover though.

Review: Lover Revealed

Lover Revealed (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #4) Lover Revealed by J.R. Ward

Description:

Butch O'Neal is a fighter by nature. A hard living, ex-homicide cop, he's the only human ever to be allowed in the inner circle of the Black Dagger Brotherhood. And he wants to go even deeper into the vampire world to engage in the turf war with the lessers. He's got nothing to lose. His heart belongs to a female vampire, Marissa, an aristocratic beauty who's way out of his league. If he can't have her, then at least he can fight side by side with the Brothers...

When Butch sacrifices himself to save a civilian vampire from the slayers, he falls prey to the darkest force in the war. Left for dead but found by a miracle, the Brotherhood calls on Marissa to bring him back, though even her love may not be enough to save him...

Thoughts:

Quite a few fans of the series have told me that they hadn't been interested in Butch's story and that it would be a little disappointing to read it.

For me, Butch has been a character that I was dying of curiosity to read about. I wanted more background on him. Best of all, I wanted the scoop on Butch and Marissa hooking up! Butch was the only human male character in the series and I found him completely fascinating.

In the end Butch has enough vamp blood in him to be “turned,” I was slightly disappointed by this. The idea of a human in the Brotherhood really tickled my fancy, but it was till really fun to have Butch join the blood sucking club.

I'm getting a strong feeling that with this series a lot of the relationship issues are mainly due to the characters not communicating. A couple of times I got frustrated with Butch and Marissa when the thing that would have solved there issue was a quick sit and talk. What do I know, tension makes the drama!

As always Ward is fantastic at including side stories. John Mathew's side story was really engaging. The reader gets to follow him as his rage finally gets turned into grief at the lost of Tohrment leaving. He's getting closer to the transition and the borther's are trying to help guide him. Zsadist makes fantastic little appearances as he tries to “help” John out. It's kind of sad as John struggles to accept his muteness, and he sees it as a weakness.

Mr. X has been reinstated as the head Forelesser and he's out to find a permanent way to end his undead life, he does not want to go back to the Omega. Mr. X was the very first lesser we were introduced to in the first book, Dark Lover. I really enjoyed his story as he tried to find the keys to a prophecy that would give one man the power to devour lessers and really kill them. The fact that an evil guy like Mr. X was trying so desperately to escape the “ultimate evil.” The irony was not lost on me.

The story between Vishous and Butch was really interesting. They're really great friends, but Vishous starts to realize that his feeling for Butch may not be as “pure” as he thought. Ward does a fantastic job telling this development as well as them both moving on with it. I was a little leery at the prospect of Vishous getting a crush on Butch. But, I think I enjoyed it. ^_-

Bottom Line:

While this isn't the strongest love story in the series (come on, it's going to be hard after Bella and Zsadist) I really enjoyed Butch's story. His transition to vampire and the back story on him was fantastic! The whole side story of Mr. X was really fun as well as he tries to make the prophecy come true, and getting more details on the Omega was really interesting. As usual all the side stories are fantastic! It's one of my favorite things to see in PNR and I love that it continues through out the series. This one was a little lighter then the the others, but still dark enough to be edgy!

Sexual Content:

PNR, quite a few hot scenes!

5/5- Fabulous, a beautiful obsession.

Review: All Together Dead

All Together Dead (Sookie Stackhouse, #7) All Together Dead by Charlaine Harris

Description:

Betrayed by her longtime vampire love, Louisiana cocktail waitress Sookie Stackhouse must now not only deal with a possible new man in her life-the oh-so-handsome shapeshifter Quinn-but also contend with a long-planned vampire summit. With her power base weakened by hurricane damage to New Orleans, the local vampire queen is vulnerable to those hungry for a takeover. Soon, Sookie must decide what side she'll stand with. And her choice may mean the difference between survival and all-out catastrophe.

Thoughts:

Each and every Sookie Stackhouse book is a treat. I've never read one that I haven't liked, or that hasn't stuck in my mind. In fact, my strong opinion is that Sookie books are the Dark Chocolate of the book world!

This was the book of character! The reader is getting a better look into Eric's head, and while twisted—he still makes me sigh wistfully. Theres more back story on Pam, who I've always been mildly amused by, after this book I love Pam. I want some more Pam time. Harris handles Sookie and Bills “falling out” great, while I admit if Bill got axed off I wouldn't blink. Sookie's brother got hitched, and there could be some future drama and pain in store for Sookie if our womanizer isn't faithful. Amelia, Sookie's roommate, is very interesting. She doesn't get a lot of page time, as the story takes place elsewhere. So lets just say there is a lot of characters here and they make a lot of progress.

The relationship between Quinn and Sookie was GREAT! Those two have chemistry and Quinn had a lot more depth then I gave him credit for. The background history on him was fun. The only thing I didn't like is that the relationship is continuously held back by Eric drama. Don't get me wrong I love Eric, but we know that it's not what Sookie needs and it just wouldn't work out. Even with Eric drama things did move along as nicely as they could.

This book is a huge turning point in the Sookie universe after quite a few vampires don't make it out of this book alive. The mystery that surrounds the book was pretty fun and intense. It was slightly annoying that Sookie could solve one of the minor mysteries on a hunch, but not the major one—which the reader could spot a mile away by all of the blatant hints. Maybe not one of the strongest Sookie mysteries.

For Sookie herself it's a turning point. She's done stuff that at the beginning of the series she would have thought awful. The loss of some of Sookie's innocence is interesting to follow, even as she can still be angry by the vampires moral code. This book highlights points to Sookie that vampires are not human and by the end of this book Sookie no longer wants anything to do with them.

Bottom Line:

While this is not the strongest mystery in the Sookie series this book is a major turning point in the series. Sookie is seeing the changes that have happened in her life since she associated with vampires. Her relationship with Eric, Quinn, and Bill. How the vampires are going to cope with the loses and how the areas are going to be taken care of is a huge cliff hanger. At last, Sookie's final decision that she no longer wants to deal with vampires. So bring on book 8!

Sexual Content:

A very steamy scene in the first part of the book.

5/5- Fabulous, a beautiful obsession.

This is just a fun weekly post to see what books I'm wishing I had. This follows BCC weekly meme, My Wishlist.

At last I have reached our destination, and of course that means a stable internet connection. Gosh I think I've had blogging and goodreads withdrawals. More addictions to add to the mix. *sigh*

Yet again I managed to still get some books to add to my wishlist!

Wow! I have to give a huge shout out to my favorite childhood authors, Robin McKinley and Patricia C. Wrede! Every time either of them release a new book I have a happy dance and I even start to sing nonsense! Besides my fav authors these other titles sound great! Just love that more and more awesome titles seem to be hitting the shelves.

I've finally come to the startling realization that my TBR pile will never end! Still not sure whether this is a good, or bad, thing.
