Really disappointed that they redoing the Would Be Witch cover. The old one fit the series better than what they’re doing with this one. This one screams Urban Fantasy action, which it is not. It’s a comedy.

JK Rowling’s alias revealed!

Well not really her “alias” but her Pseudonym. Other places have been abuzz with this news, but for me I only briefly saw something on the GMA scrolling news at the bottom.  So I figured if you’re out of the book news you’ll want the download.

thecukoo'scalling

The Cuckoo’s Calling by Robert Galbraith, er, JK Rowling.

Here’s the book description:

A brilliant debut mystery in a classic vein: Detective Cormoran Strike investigates a supermodel's suicide. After losing his leg to a land mine in Afghanistan, Cormoran Strike is barely scraping by as a private investigator. Strike is down to one client, and creditors are calling. He has also just broken up with his longtime girlfriend and is living in his office.

Then John Bristow walks through his door with an amazing story: His sister, the legendary supermodel Lula Landry, known to her friends as the Cuckoo, famously fell to her death a few months earlier. The police ruled it a suicide, but John refuses to believe that. The case plunges Strike into the world of multimillionaire beauties, rock-star boyfriends, and desperate designers, and it introduces him to every variety of pleasure, enticement, seduction, and delusion known to man.

You may think you know detectives, but you've never met one quite like Strike. You may think you know about the wealthy and famous, but you've never seen them under an investigation like this.

Sounds pretty cool. To be honest though, I probably—no never would have—picked this up without JK Rowling’s name behind it. I have a hard time reading mystery books that I enjoy that don’t involve fantasy, sci/fi, or some kind of cool genre joy. Maybe if all my GR friends loved this title and recommended in time I might.

So I’m not ashamed to admit that I will be eventually reading this one because it’s Rowling.

Though I admit that I feel back for Rowling. Clearly if she wanted people to know that she wrote this book she would have told everyone. In fact, this quote is floating around:

"I had hoped to keep this secret a little longer," JKR said, "because being Robert Galbraith has been such a liberating experience. It has been wonderful to publish without hype or expectation and pure pleasure to get feedback under a different name."

Shame to those Oxford professors. For shame.

So what do you think?

Star-Crossed TV series!

Ok. Ok. It’s not the one you’re thinking of. Nope. This is a new concept The CW has come up with.

Not sure how I missed it when I was hunting down new series, but I did. Oops.

So . . . . what do you think? Personally I both fear and love it. This could be an amazing love story. Or it could die in a burning heap of camel dung. I’m staying optimistic, but I question how superior these aliens are. So far the only “difference” is there faded tattoo looking markings.

At least this series is doing what The CW does best, people candy. Lovely beautiful people. You can count on them.

Genre: Paranormal YA
Series: N/A

After six years of “angels” coming out of the sky and taking people from her town, 16-year-old Riley Carver has just about had it living with the constant fear. When one decides to terrorize her in her own backyard, it’s the final straw. She takes her mother’s shotgun and shoots the thing. So it’s dead. Or … not? In place of the creature she shot, is a guy. A really hot guy. A really hot alive and breathing guy. Oh, and he’s totally naked.

Not sure what to do, she drags his unconscious body to the tool shed and ties him up. After all, he’s an angel and they have tricks. When he regains consciousness she’s all set to interrogate him about why the angels come to her town, and how to get back her best friend (and almost boyfriend) Chris, who was taken the year before. But it turns out the naked guy in her shed is just as confused about everything as she is.
He thinks it’s 1956.

Set in the deep south, OUTCAST is a story of love, trust, and coming of age. It’s also a story about the supernatural, a girl with a strange sense of humor who’s got wicked aim, a greaser from the 50’s, and an army of misfits coming together for one purpose: To kick some serious angel ass.

I actually just posted this in the Cover Coveting on Monday (yeah, I’m behind on those a bit). The cover really captured my attention. But it actually sounds really good.

Game of Thrones: Comic Con

It’s ironic that while I’m currently playing catch up on Season 2 & 3 of Game of Thrones that some good news comes out.

San Diego Comic Con! While I never make it to this awesome event I always like to stay updated and catch the vids on Youtube later. So there is going to be a Game of Thrones panel this year and it’s been confirmed that George R. R. Martin will be part of the panel.

The next convention on my calendar is the San Diego Comicon.

My dance card is already almost full. Yes, there will be a GAME OF THRONES panel, and I’ll be on it. It is scheduled for Friday, July 19, 2:50 to 3:45, in Hall H To be followed by an autographing at the WB booth. Of course, I’ll be joined on the panel by half a dozen cast members (no, don’t know which ones yet) and David and Dan. – Source

Paranormal(ish) Movies & TV Edition . . . continued

As promised here to bring you the rest of the movies and tv shows that I’ve spotted out there that have a paranormal(ish) theme.

the100

The 100 is a book I’ve been obsessed with reading! All of a sudden the CW is releasing a trailer for a TV show!! What! I hope I can read the book before the show comes out. (The book comes out in September of this year, but the trailer states the show is coming out midseason.) Basically the earth has been uninhabitable by 97 years. Some space stations in earth are the only place man has survived. Now there sending 100 prisoners down to see if it is habitable. Check out the trailer it looks so good.

I’ve made no secret of how disappointed I’ve been of Once Upon a Time season 2. There’s just something vital missing. So when I heard there would be a spinoff called Once Upon a Time in Wonderland I was not into the idea.

However, seeing this trailer I’m all in. Just wow!!! This is probably going to be the single most epic love story since Veronica Mars (or whatever series romance you find epic, ex Angel and Buffy).

Reign another CW show premiering in the fall. This is the untold story of Mary Queen of Scots’ rise to power. She’s 15 arriving to France as the betrothed to Prince Francis. To me this show could either be boring beyond a doubt, or absolutely lethal (in a good way).

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.E.I.L.D. is a show that I fear for while doing a crazy happy dance. No really I’m conflicted. I loved Avengers and Joss Whedon was brilliant, I’m hoping this will be one TV show that they will not cancel of his. Just watch the trailer its got plenty of Whedon humor. Yeah!!

All right, all right, I’m sure I’m the only one who hasn’t bothered to check this one out but here is The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. All I can say is Legolas!!! Yes!

That dragon, no.

Hello! How did I miss Thor: The Dark World? It looks awesome!! Thor and Loki teaming up, yummy yes please!

Ender’s Game is a book that I have tried to read many times. Yet somehow I never make it past chapter 1. This trailer for the book looks great, makes me want to try the book again.

Well that’s all for me. Looks like the Marvel universe is really going to explode and I’m very curious to see everything! I’ll take a peek and see if there’s anything else to check out.
