Cover art is not final!
I’ve just noticed a genre that always seems to have stunning cover art, Dystopian. It’s getting just as popular as PN YA and the covers are even more stunning then what PN YA is getting. No really just do a search on the Goodreads lists and you can see the stunning art work.
Call of the Sea by Rebecca Hart
Amazon: N/A Shera’s Thoughts: This cover feels like a 90s epic fantasy story. I like it good enough, but it doesn’t advertise well what this book has to offer. |
Elysandra Winters has always yearned for a life of adventure on the rolling seas and is willing to do whatever it takes to fulfill her dream. When her Privateer father continually refuses to allow his only daughter to sail, Ellie defies him, disguises herself as a boy, and goes in search of a captain who will give her a chance to prove her worth.
Thanks to the cursed selkie blood coursing through his veins, Daniel O'Rourke needs the sea to survive. After giving up on his humanity and spending three years in seal form, he decides to give his human side another chance. Daniel goes in search of a job and a sense of normalcy, earning himself a position aboard Captain Winter’s ship, The Surf Runner. However, his new captain’s first assignment has nothing at all to do with sailing, and everything to do with his headstrong young daughter.
Years later, when the leader of a band of bloodthirsty pirates murders Captain Winters, Daniel and Elysandra’s lives come crashing back together with the force of a hurricane. Both experts in deception, they must find a way to trust each other if they are to have any hope of hunting down the captain’s killer.

Embers & Echoes by Karsten Knight
Amazon: Print | Kindle Shera’s Thoughts: When I saw this cover I didn’t even think that this could be a sequel to Wildfire. It’s cool that they’re trying to keep the flower theme, but it conjures a different series and genre to mind. This would be better suited for a Dystopian read. |
Ashline Wilde is about to discover that when you’re the reincarnation of a Polynesian volcano goddess, “new beginnings” are just a myth.
Leaving the fiery ruins of her sophomore year behind her, Ash travels to the sizzling beaches of Miami, hot on the trail of the little sister she’s only seen in visions. But her happy family reunion isn’t all palm trees and paradise. A cult of evil gods-on-earth, known as the Four Seasons, has kidnapped her sister to use in its terrifying new religion. Soon, the streets of Miami erupt in chaos and violence…and Ash gets caught right in the tropical crossfire
Ash isn’t without help, however. Unexpected romance arrives in the form of Wes, an Aztec god of night with his own vendetta against the Four Seasons. As memories of Ash’s previous life begin to flicker into her dreams, the boundaries between ally and enemy, life and death, and love and hate all bleed together. And when a mysterious trickster from her past reappears to derail her new quest, Ash must choose between the echoes of a once-forgotten yesterday and the embers of an uncertain future.
Because when old flames return from the dead, even a volcano goddess can get burned

Unrest by Michelle Harrison
Amazon: N/A Shera’s Thoughts: This is completely forgettable and it looks like a cover for an adult mystery novel to me. |
Seventeen-year-old Elliott hasn’t slept properly for months. Not since the accident that nearly killed him. Sometimes he half-wakes, paralysed, while shadowy figures move around him. Other times he is the one moving around, while his body lies asleep on the bed. His doctors say sleep paralysis and out of body experiences are harmless - but to Elliott they’re terrifying.
Convinced that his brush with death has attracted the spirit world, Elliott secures a job at a reputedly haunted museum, determined to discover the truth. There, he meets the enigmatic Ophelia. But, as she and Elliott grow closer, Elliott draws new attention from the dead. One night, during an out of body experience, Elliott returns to bed to find his body gone. Something is occupying it, something dead that wants to live again . . . and it wants Ophelia, too . . .
A chilling new novel for teen readers from the best-selling author of the widely-acclaimed 13 Treasures sequence.

The Impossible Cube by Steven Harper
Amazon: Paperback Shera’s Thoughts: Horrible cover. The cover model’s face just looks . . . awkward. The background is just forgettable. At this point I have really high standards for Steampunk covers and I want the design team to do the same! |

Inbetween by Tara Fuller
Amazon: Paperback Shera’s Thoughts: I like what they’re trying to do with this cover with the movement. The typography is really hard to read that way though, it’s a bad font for that. Plus, without that little scythe symbol at the bottom I would have no idea that this was YA. |
Since the car crash that took her father’s life three years ago, Emma’s life has been a freaky—and unending—lesson in caution. Surviving “accidents” has taken priority over being a normal seventeen-year-old, so Emma spends her days taking pictures of life instead of living it. Falling in love with a boy was never part of the plan. Falling for a reaper who makes her chest ache and her head spin? Not an option.
It’s not easy being dead, especially for a reaper in love with a girl fate has put on his list not once, but twice. Finn’s fellow reapers give him hell about spending time with Emma, but Finn couldn’t let her die before, and he’s not about to let her die now. He will protect the girl he loves from the evil he accidentally unleashed, even if it means sacrificing the only thing he has left...his soul.

Grim by Anna Waggener
Amazon: Hardcover Shera’s Thoughts: Hands down this cover is ugly. It feels like something for a Christian novel or a historical. I wouldn’t even give this book a first look. |
A fantastic debut from the winner of the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards novel contest.
When Erika wakes up after a horrific car crash, she finds herself somewhere between earth and heaven, between life and death. She doesn't want to accept help from Jeremiah, who she's not sure she can trust, even as she finds herself drawn to him, following him into a grim city of souls. She's not sure who wants to help her and who wants to hurt her. And she's desperate to get back to her children.
Shawn's never thought about having to shoulder the responsibility of caring for his young sister Megan and his reckless older sister. And he never imagined that the three of them would find themselves in a haunted wood, sometimes chased, sometimes assisted, never sure where they're headed.
With Grim, the terrifically talented Anna Waggener delves into the place where myth becomes reality, where family can distort you as easily as it cares for you, where death and eternity meet.

Amazon: Hardcover Shera’s Thoughts: Simply stunning! Best cover of the year yet. Love how there’s an illusion of a face within a face. |

The Parasol Protectorate Volume 2: Heartless and Timeless by Gail Carriger
Amazon: N/A Shera’s Thoughts: Wow!! Try and find the right links for this one or volume 1. These covers are sooooooo much better then the individual ones they currently have out. Thank you, thank you. |

Timeless: Alexia has settled into domestic bliss, but, alas, a summons has arrived that cannot be ignored. With husband, child, and Ivy Tunstell’s acting troupe in tow, Alexia boards a steamer to Egypt. But the Land of the Nile may hold more mysteries than the indomitable Lady Maccon can handle.
