Dina DeMille doesn’t run your typical Bed and Breakfast. Her inn defies laws of physics, her fluffy dog is secretly a monster, and the only paying guest is a former Galactic tyrant with a price on her head. But the inn needs guests to thrive, and guests have been scarce, so when an Arbitrator shows up at Dina's door and asks her to host a peace summit between three warring species, she jumps on the chance.
Unfortunately, for Dina, keeping the peace between Space Vampires, the Hope-Crushing Horde, and the devious Merchants of Baha-char is much easier said than done. On top of keeping her guests from murdering each other, she must find a chef, remodel the inn...and risk everything, even her life, to save the man she might fall in love with. But then it's all in the day's work for an Innkeeper…
Review:
I know I'm in the minority, but the Innkeeper Chronicles are my favorite series from Ilona Andrews. And if they ever see my review I hope they see this:
Thank you Ilona Andrews for doing this as a free online read. And then publishing it for us poor souls who have to have the finished product. Take my money, I love supporting good authors. Especially heart projects. - Love Shera
Any Andrews’ book has a certain similar. The coolest thing about the Innkeeper Chronicles the awesome—freaking amazing—blend of fantasy and science fiction. It's no secret that the Andrews pair come up with totally amazing urban fantasy worlds. The universe, literally, of the Innkeepers Chronicles is no exception. Especially since it's, well, a universe!
Speaking of universe I was wondering how we’d get to explore it. Clean Sweep was a great setup. Introducing the Inns and their powers, and how they’re more then just a way station for universes weary travelers. Readers are given enough of a peak into what lies out there, while the majority of the action happens on earth. It was perfect. So this time I totally wanted more-more-more of Gertrude Inn, Dina, and Caldenia my favorite “Galactic Tyrant”.
So the amazing Andrews team delivers EVERYTHING! How, by bringing in a few characters from The Edge series—certain child characters that fans had requested—and giving a brilliant tease of how intricate the universe of the Innkeepers can be. For those wondering you don’t actually need to have read The Edge books, you won’t miss a beat. (And for the sake of those who know The Edge I’ll keep spoilers out.)
Sweep in Peace is an amazing political intrigue of space/planet politics and the clash of multiple peoples. People who come to a peace meeting knowing that they’re pride and prejudices will never allow them to reach an agreement. Even if peace is one thing they all secretly want. Dina is responsible for keeping all these blood hungry fiends. And it’s an adrenaline rush that I do not have the proper words to explain, and don’t want to spoil a thing. All you need to know is that you get to go on a galactic adventure. (Even if technically most of the book takes place in the Inn.)
There was one tiny-tiny thing that irked me. The setup for the love triangle had excited me. Because while both men are Andrews’ standard creations, there might be a chance that Dina might see more then one guy and not obsess the obvious choice. (Sean.) However, I was annoyed how much Dina obsessed about him. She’s right they spent barely a week doing basic introductions. While she simply states that it won’t work with Arland and it seems like they created the love triangle just to . . . kill it? For me every male lead that I read from Andrews is inspired by Curran. Where as the females stand out, sure there’s similarities it happens with writers, but you could tell each leading lady apart if they were in the same metaphorical room in the bookverse of fantasy.
It’s my one gripe because a love triangle with promise was killed by a case of insta-love. Who knows, maybe things will happen in the next book.
Anywho. Sweep in Peace is the perfect follow up to Clean Sweep, and I’m sure those who had issues with the first book will click with this second installment. The world building is expanded on and I’m obsessed with this universe. Not to mention the humor because just imagine Andrews’ amazing wit applied to galactic politics. Especially with Caldenia being in her element and seeing how feared she is. (Oh, I can’t wait to get her story.) Not to mention that there’s some more lovely artwork commissioned for this book. Even if you’re not a Andrews fan, don’t want to read ANOTHER Andrews work, or whatever. Don’t miss this series. Go forth and experience the magic of the Innkeepers Chronicles.
Sexual Content: Some sexual humor.
5/5- Fabulous, a beautiful obsession!
