You'd think being abducted by aliens would be the worst thing that could happen to me. And you'd be wrong. Because now, the aliens are having ship trouble, and they've left their cargo of human women - including me - on an ice planet.
And the only native inhabitant I've met? He's big, horned, blue, and really, really has a thing for me...
Review:
The amount of times I have read this book. . . is pretty crazy. I reread it fairly consistently about once a year or so. It's actually kind of become a Christmas tradition for me. Maybe it's the snow. Or it's about the time I read Ice Planet Barbarians for the first time. So, I think that means I really, really, like Ice Planet Barbarians. Which means that my old rating and review of 2 stars back in 2016 needs to be corrected. Cause (and I hate to admit this) due to peer pressure from other more "serious" and "better" reviewers I felt the need to give this book a low rating. I don't think I caved in saying the book was bad, in fact, I only had nice things to say about the book. My only regret was I didn't do a full fangirl review that the book deserves. Because today I proudly tell everyone one: I'm a fan of blue alien porn!
The humor of Ice Planet Barbarians is still one of my favorite things about this book! No matter how many times I read Ice Planet Barbarians I laugh my butt off! Sure the humor can be right on the nose, but it's the perfect nose boop. Not to mention how down right clever it can be. The above quote is one of my favorite lines. It doesn't hurt that Georgie happens to be one of my favorite characters in the series. Not to mention the perfect character to introduce readers to the planet Not Hoth. (Yes, expect many nerd references and jokes! Fangirl. Fangirling.)
There is a particular scene. (At this point if you're reading the reviews it's not really a spoiler.) A rape scene. I remember reading the line above chuckling thinking to myself that I as in for a cheesy read. Then all of a sudden the rape scene hits. Wham! It was intense and it let me know that shit just got real. Queue high stakes! It brought urgency and raw emotions to the book on such a level that consumed me. (Will. Not. Make. The. Joke. *But really wants to*)
That said, this is a sweet and warm romance. The planet might be inhospitable and not made for human life, but the aliens are certainly made for female pleasure! *winks* Funky anatomy that's alien, but perfect for extra fun times. Sure they have horns, four fingers—three during a sex scene that pulled me out of the moment as I had to confirm they have four fingers not three—, textured parts, fangs, blue and gray hues, a spur . . . well I'll stop before I spoil some of the surprises!
Vektal is kind of perfect. He's clearly a barbarian, but a gentleman. Not to mention a very generous lover. The sex scenes in Ice Planet Barbarians are some of my all time favorites and it's all due to hunky Vektal.
Okay. I've addressed the hot alien sex and humor. Warm magical sparkly blue alien love. It also needs to be said that the story and plot is key. There's a reason and a logic to how things are happening. How the girls make their choices. It's clear Ruby Dixon is a fan of science fiction. That it's not just about the alien sex. She enjoys a well developed world and it shows here. Story, plot, and world building are just as important. Ruby Dixon clearly had fun writing this, which makes it so pleasurable to read. Too long has science fiction belonged to the men. Not to mention that some of the science fiction romance that I've found got pinned under paranormal romance because how dare Science Fiction romance and erotica exist! Who would read it!?
Part of the fun is also all about the tropes. So many tropes! Dixon clearly had fun with them. They don't feel like the same old tropes. It's a relief that the male lead and all the other hunky aliens aren't some controlling over bearing jerks. They're sweet. While still being sexy barbarians. There's a stellar cast here and it's clear that Dixon loves side characters and their stories. The best thing about these kind of stories is always getting to know the side characters and anticipating their book! Seeing our favorites in the eyes of the other characters. Dixon understands this and is already building things up.
It's crazy how much this book and the series, and basically any thing by Ruby Dixon, mean to me! I'm an obsessed fan! My ebook copy of Ice Planet Barbarians needs some minor tidying up, but it's a fantastic introduction! It's proof as to why readers need Self Publish work. There's no way traditional publishing wouldn't have fucked this up. This is a perfect blend of some many genres. A perfect blend of romantic warmth, steamy sex, brilliant humor, and so much more. I can hear the masses whispering in the corner: "Have your read that blue alien smut?"
Content Warning: So there is a rape. It might triggers some. There's also a forced abortion that isn't very graphic just briefly mentioned. Plenty of sexual humor and well alien sex.
4/5 - A true obsession!
