Eye of the Tempest (Jane True, book 4) by Nicole Peeler
Nothing says "home" like being attacked by humans with very large guns, as Jane and Anyan discover when they arrive in Rockabill. These are professionals, brought into kill, and they bring Anyan down before either Jane or the barghest can react. Seeing Anyan fall awakens a terrible power within Jane, and she nearly destroys herself taking out their attackers.
Jane wakes, weeks later, to discover that she's not the only thing that's been stirring. Something underneath Rockabill is coming to life: something ancient, something powerful, and something that just might destroy the world.
Jane and her friends must act, striking out on a quest that only Jane can finish. For whatever lurks beneath the Old Sow must be stopped...and Jane's just the halfling for the job.
Sexual tension. To the point where it's almost painful! Oh, and some other stuff. It must be said that Jane's libido is one of my favorite characters and when it's being denied she gets grumpy. And snarky! What I wasn't prepared for was the . . . twist.
Basically Jane becomes the chosen one. My book friends know how much this annoys me. Very few authors can pull off “the chosen one” bull crap and it always puts the fear in me. But this is Peeler. To me she can do no wrong and I highly doubt she's going to make Jane some kind of super-none-can-touch-her-ego-cray-cray type lead. As Jane goes on this next chapter of her life. Nope. Peeler handles it well. Jane is a Champion and this book only furthers her status as an amazing lead. The Jane True universe has been 100% unique—awesomeness—that fans have greatly appreciated. With this new mythology of the Alfar being revealed I'm sure fans will be blown away.
All of the amazing cast of characters are here. It amazes me each time how much I love all of Jane's friends, especially Jane's employers! The build up of Anyan and Jane is awesome. Also, frustrating as they keep getting interrupted. It doesn't help that some of Blondie’s origin story gets tossed in, and Jane develops a girl crush on Blondie . . . those scenes are pretty steamy. It was like this whole emotional thing. Anyan and Jane. *Fans self.* Blondie and Jane. *gulp* Mercy! Yet I'm team Anyan all the way and I want to see more of that relationship build. It would be cruel to have the amazing buildup and emotion to only be cut off before it really gets anywhere.
In the end I was shocked by the sudden “Ultimate Champion Jane” twist and the truth behind the Alfar. Thank you Peeler! This series is going to keep knocking my socks off with each new addition and I look forward to it. There is apart of me that felt this book wasn’t at great as the others. However! The whole world of Jane True is one that I've come to love and I count down the days to each new release. Tell the next adventure!
Sexual Content: This book is hawt! Great make out scenes and some naughty ones. Nothing too explicit.
4/5- Great! Really enjoyed it.
