Cover Coveting(14)

Downton Abbey is back on. Gosh, I’m loving it. At the time I’m writing this I have yet to see episode 2. But I hope they don’t get rid of certain man candy . . . sighs. There’s just not enough man candy.

Kitty Saves the World by Carrie Vaughn

Previous book(s) in series:

Goodreads | Amazon

kitty-saves-the-world Series: Kitty Norville, book 14

Add it: Goodreads | Amazon
Genre: Urban Fantasy

Shera’s thoughts:

It fits the series. But there’s a certain magic missing from the covers lately.

The wolves around Kitty is really awesome. Pack vibe.

Mechanica by Betsy Cornwell

Previous book(s) in series:

Goodreads | Amazon

mechanica Series: N/A

Add it: Goodreads | Amazon
Genre: Young Adult Steampunk

Shera’s thoughts:

Love it! Love. Love. Love it! The gears making up her bridge/ledge are so well done. The typography is gorgeous. Every part Mechanica’s cover helps to enforce what it is. Steampunk fairy tale.

Thank you.

Night of the Highland Dragon by Isabel Cooper

Previous book(s) in series:

Goodreads | Amazon

night-of-the-highland-dragon Series: Highland Dragons, book 3

Add it: Goodreads | Amazon
Genre: Historical Paranormal Romance

Shera’s thoughts:

Best cover in the series yet. Love her dress and the sword. The hint of dragon over her shoulder is very cool. I love how you can tell it’s a dragon, but it blends into the sunset.

Pure Blooded by Amanda Carlson

Previous book(s) in series:

Goodreads | Amazon

pure-blooded Series: Jessica McClain, book 5

Add it: Goodreads | Amazon
Genre: Urban Fantasy

Shera’s thoughts:

Badass cover! What I love most is how comfy she looks, and natural. See you don’t need . . . OK so there is cleavage. But it’s normal. Really people cleavage.

(The sad state of book covers when I have to address cleavage.)

Overall it’s awesome! A nice swamp vibe.

Save Me by Jenny Elliott

Previous book(s) in series:

Goodreads | Amazon

save-me Series: N/A

Add it: Goodreads | Amazon
Genre: Paranormal Young Adult

Shera’s thoughts:

It’s so beautiful. While I feel like there’s  slight awkwardness to her past out floating, it’s a magic float! So who know where she’s being magically held by.

This is one book where the synopsis does not fit the book. I feel like it should belong to an ethereal story, but have this strange feeling I’m not going to like this teen drama.

Maybe because a small part of me is picking up some kind of Hush, Hush vibe.

Shadows Strike by Dianne Duvall

Previous book(s) in series:

Goodreads | Amazon

shadows-strike Series: Immortal Guardians, book 5

Add it: Goodreads | Amazon
Genre: N/A

Shera’s thoughts:

What is with the authors’ names over powering the titles? I know an authors’ name can sale a book.

It’s just seems tacky to me.

Plus, another point against this book is it’s a face cover. While it’s not as ugly as the previous cover, it doesn’t fit the series.

Shadow Study by Maria V. Snyder

Previous book(s) in series:

Goodreads | Amazon

shadow-study Series: Soulfinders, book 1

Add it: Goodreads | Amazon
Genre: High Fantasy

Shera’s thoughts:

Hmmmmmm, I’m torn. The cover is beautiful, even though the title typography feels off.

It’s just doesn’t match the style that the other series have been using.

Maybe the style is to say that the series is going into a whole new direction.

Silver Eve by Sandra Waugh

Previous book(s) in series:

Goodreads | Amazon

silver-eve Series: Guardians of Tarnec, book 2

Add it: Goodreads | Amazon
Genre: Young Adult Fantasy

Shera’s thoughts:

So unique I love it! It fits in nicely with the series, and still looks awesome.

Ah, it’s so magical.

Siren’s Fury by Mary Weber

Previous book(s) in series:

Goodreads | Amazon

siren's-fury Series: The Storm Siren Trilogy , book 2

Add it: Goodreads | Amazon
Genre: N/A

Shera’s thoughts:

While I don’t like that her face is bleached so much that it’s fading into the background, I like the rest.

Matches the series well.

Sisters of Blood and Spirit by Kady Cross

Previous book(s) in series:

Goodreads | Amazon

sisters-of-blood-and-spirit Series: Sisters of Blood and Spirit, book 1

Add it: Goodreads | Amazon
Genre: Paranormal Young Adult

Shera’s thoughts:

Another “fire and ice” cover! So lovely. Usually half face covers like this look weird and just creepy.

This looks beautiful and creepy! Plus, I love how the text on the dead sister’s side is blurred. Very haunting.

Soul Scorched by Donna Grant

Previous book(s) in series:

Goodreads | Amazon

soul-scorched Series: Dark Kings, book 6

Add it: Goodreads | Amazon
Genre: Paranormal Romance

Shera’s thoughts:

Fits the series well.

Spider’s Trap by Jennifer Estep

Previous book(s) in series:

Goodreads | Amazon

spider's-trap Series: Elemental Assassin, book 13

Add it: Goodreads | Amazon
Genre: Urban Fantasy

Shera’s thoughts:

Estep truly is blessed with great covers. (Well, for this series.) Love it!

The spider rune on the hedge. The spider web in gins shirt. The hint that she’s using both magic and made kickass skills. Perfect.

Splintered by Jamie Schultz

Previous book(s) in series:

Goodreads | Amazon

splintered Series: Arcane Underworld, book 2

Add it: Goodreads | Amazon
Genre: Urban Fantasy

Shera’s thoughts:

Ah! Another badass male cover! Oh, so cool. It looks like a poster for a hot action movie, the arcane symbols give it that paranormal flare!

Oh, and the typography. So cool! Love the type chosen and the clever skew.

Summer Queen by Amber Argyle

Previous book(s) in series:

Goodreads | Amazon

summer-queen Series: Fairy Queens, book 2

Add it: Goodreads | Amazon
Genre: Romantic Fantasy

Shera’s thoughts:

Holy freaking fire wings! LOVE. IT.

No, really it’s perfection. Perfection.

Part of me morns for how much cover art for fantasy books have changed, but then ones like this come out and make all the pain go away.
