Author Gossip(5) and Cover Coveting(9)

As a reader I always want the download on what's going on with authors. Do they have new books coming out, how the latest tour going, any thing juicy! So, I decided to bring the news to my readers. I'm lurking around all of those author blogs anyway, might as well do something productive.

Howl's Moving Castle T

he Amazing Diana Wynne Jones pasted away on March 27, 2011. Even if you've never read anything by this amazing author, I know at some point you've heard of her, or at the very least her work. Probably the most well known is Howl's Moving Castle, which was a fantastic novel as well as a great movie. Feel free to pay your respects on the author's site as well as getting all the information about this amazing women.

She past away from lung cancer.  Lovers of her work won’t have to say good bye just yet:

We can remember Diana through two forthcoming books. A short novel for younger readers, Earwig and the Witch, will be published in summer 2011 by HarperCollins (UK), Greenwillow (US) and Tokuma Shoten (Japan). This tells the story of young Earwig, who loved living in an orphanage and hates Bella Yaga, who chose her from the children's home and makes her do horrible jobs such as scrubbing the floor and powdering rats' bones. With the help of Thomas the Cat, Earwig solves her predicament with DWJ's trademark humour and understanding.

Secondly, next year David Fickling Publishers will be producing a collection of Diana's articles, lectures, talks, etc. This will include an introduction by Charlie Butler and an interview by him with her, probably Diana's last ever interview.

Red Glove (Curse Workers, Book 2)

Attention Holly Black fans, especially fans of her Curse Worker series. There are lots of new goodies up to grab for the release of Red Glove in the form of wallpaper! They're really awesome goodies so go and get the goods.

The Dark Divine A

gain news best served by the author (or a article shared by the author):

Studios set to start on 'The Dark Divine' project.
Winter, Botwick set adaptation of Despain novel with help from some familiar friends
By DAVE MCNARY
Ralph Winter ("X-Men") and Terry Botwick announced today they have finalized negotiations with Jim Henson Studios in partnership with Miramax Films on a surprising adaptation to "The Dark Divine," Bree Despain's three-book young adult series.
The first tome, titled "The Dark Divine" and published December 2009 by Egmont USA, centers on a 16-year-old pastor's daughter who falls in love with a boy who reveals he's a werewolf. Second title, "The Lost Saint," was released on Dec. 28, 2010; the third, untitled book is skedded for publication in late 2011.
The deal comes several months after Winter and Botwick snagged feature rights to the trilogy under the banner of 1019 Entertainment.
"There have been a lot of failed attempts at book adaptations lately, and we decided it was time to take a risk and try something different," Winter and Botwick said. "This project has a strong romantic appeal, and Bree Despain is a talented voice with a loyal following. We also know she has a great love for Jim Henson's creations."
As for casting, the producers declined to comment, but a source at Miramax stated they are looking heavily at several options for Daniel and Grace, though it is clear that Miss Piggy has been snubbed for the lead as evidenced by her tirade on YouTube earlier today when asked to comment. Leading the fray for the role of Daniel Kalbi is Beaker, who has openly expressed a great interest in playing the role and has already garnered a lot of support from loyal fans of Despain's works. Gonzo, Fonzie, and Animal have also admitted to being approached for the role.

Shera’s Thoughts:  Very cool cover, I love how all the colors contrast.   Plus this cover has two chicks with guns, doesn’t get any cooler then that.  (Sorry about the white around it, couldn’t find an image without it.

Shera’s Thoughts:  Hate it.  Didn’t like when the introduced the silhouettes of people on the covers before, and now they’ve cluttered it with two, plus little wolves.  Wish they would have kept things simple and classy.

Shera’s Thoughts:  Don’t now how I missed the release of this cover, but maybe your slow like me.

Love, love it!!  The blue and black from the previous cover is stunning, but the composition of this one is just as amazing.  I love the earthy tones and the red bag that just jumps out at you.  Plus, they keep the outfit kind of the same.

Shera’s Thoughts:  There’s that awesome gun again!!  Her eyes just look creepy on this cover, in a bad way.  On the previous cover they look beautiful, but I don’t think the eyes being read would have looked any better.  Maybe the should have stuck to the blue theme, but then blue doesn’t got with Hell.

Love all the covers (especially Reckoning! - those covers have been rather BLEH lately, so yay!), but, er, you do realise that "Litter" was an April Fools joke... right?

Phew! Glad it was an April Fools Joke. I was throwing the post together on very little sleep so I missed the joke. Even with all the other authors doing gag covers this one still made it past.

^_- It's always fun to be taken in by an April Fools joke!!
