Heads up this week's posts will be a little slim. However, great news just popped into my mailbox from author Rachel Caine.

Rachel is very pleased to announce that the Great Library series, which was originally planned for three books, is now extending to five volumes ... because when you're telling a story this big, you need a bigger canvas. If you haven't started the Great Library series yet, you're in for an epic read: a journey through a rich alternate world where the Great Library of Alexandria never burned, books are sacred, and knowledge is the ultimate power.

"I'm thrilled to get to expand and continue Jess's story," says Rachel. "It's such a huge world and concept, and as a writer, getting to play with concepts like these, and characters I love, is a dream come true. I faithfully buy each book, but I haven't read them yet. Normally I get nervous when a trilogy expands. So I hope it fits well. Either way I'm excited for more lovely covers.

OK, so that's a new cover. For a new Arcana book. Goodreads has it marked as 3.5 in the series. Than book 4. Well there's no page count. I have a feeling this will not be a short. Nope. In fact, I feel like this is a Kate Daniel's Gunmetal Magic or The Lunar Chronicles' Fairest.

That leads my to wonder if she will go back to the main story? That's what I'm afraid of. I am excited about the prospect of getting to know other Arcana cards. HOWEVER. I do not want to have the main story left behind and all these other stories with open stories.

I love the Immortals After Dark series, but she teases. There are so many open stories and . . . that's one of the reasons I love the Arcana books. It brought all the best of Cole's writing and then made her have to stick with the leads and flesh out a story for a long while.

Also, if it is a full book that's cruel to leave us on that cliffhanger. Really cruel. Though if she sticks to the tentative schedule it won't be so bad.

Books to Movie!

OK, this is post dated so the first trailer is going to be waaaaaay out dated, and the second will be too. But hey! That’s the drama with post dating. ^_-

Well this one took me by surprise! I was unaware that the movie rights had even been sold! The trailer for the movie has been out since last week, and I noticed it making all the runs on my fave blogs.

So I’m late. But I’m officially putting my two cents out there. First off I hope this movie elevates what sounds like a really stupid concept to me. Does anyone else thing that the first 4 waves would have wiped out man kind. And The Host anyone? (Which I did enjoy.) The mediocre plot is why I still haven’t cracked open my copy despite raving reviews.

The trailer is cool and I am hoping that Chloë Grace Moretz will get the buzz she needs from this movie.

 

This is another title that I’ve been hearing soooooo much buzz about in the book sphere. It sounds cool. So when I had heard it was being made into a movie and Matt Damon was the lead, I knew it would be amazing. This trailer confirms that!

The Arcana Chronicles News!

This dropped last week, but I took Thursday and Friday off so I’m posting this now! It’s from Kresley Cole’s official Newsletter.

It’s been pretty hush, hush lately on Kresley Cole news. And it’s all been the bare minimum or nothing. Especially on The Arcana Chronicles. The fact that there was no news on book 4 for or how many more would be in the series made me nervous. The last young adult series I liked this much got cancelled . . .

However, the Arcana Chronicles have been doing really well, sells speaking. So I kept trying to comfort myself that no publisher would cancel a lucrative series. Right?

Well Cole has dropped the news! The Arcana Chronicles “TV & Motion Picture rights have been optioned by a major studio!!”

So I’m guessing all the delays, on all of Cole’s work, have been due to negotiating that. However, I’d never post for that. Unless there’s an actual official trailer nothing is real. No it’s because finally there’s some reassurances about the Arcana Chronicles BOOKs!

The 4th one doesn’t have a name yet but it will be released in the spring. (Though she didn’t say 2015 . . .  or any year. But assume 2015.) So far it’s official “. . . that there will be a minimum of five installments in the Chronicles.”

Personally I do not think that is enough books to finish the tangled games that are the Arcana Chronicles. Or if it is the Cole’s plan I feel like it’s going to end up feeling rushed. The fact that Cole is sticking with the lead female throughout the series has made her have to reach outside of her normal formula and come up with other elements. I’ll be sad to see it end, especially since all of  Cole’s other books/series are suffering from her “Standard Cole Formula”.

So what do you guys think? Interested in seeing the Arcana books into a TV show or movie? Do you think 5 books are enough or that there will (should) be more?

OK, I’ve been following the gossip and news! It’s all official from the author and the Goodreads page. (Nothing feels official in the book verse without it popping up on GR, even with the official word coming from the author! I’ve been brainwashed.)

So it’s been official for a while that J.R. Ward is doing a Contemporary Romance series. It’s the The Bourbon Kings series. (Amazon | Goodreads) While I love it when authors start new series, it’s been making me said how many Paranormal Romance/Urban Fantasy are switching over to “normal” genres. You know contemporary work. So my heart was all a flutter when Ward hinted she’d be starting a new PNR title. Then hinting it would have ties to the Black Dagger Brotherhood world. More so then her other spinoff! Yeah!

So the news is that it will be a younger generation of BDB trainees. But. Promise this is a good but. But it will tie in and show the original members of the BDB books. Focusing more on the aspects of basic paranormal romance. Personally I love the growth of the BDB series. In fact, the complexity of the world is what made me stick around for the series. (And let’s be honest if the epic world building of the Psy-Changeling books wasn’t present, the series would have fallen flat fast.) I like paranormal romance series that don’t just focus on the romance, because not going there can leave a romance and stories flat.

So the official blurb is out for the first book. The series is called Black Dagger Legacy—so fitting. The first book is titled Blood Kiss (Amazon | Goodreads) and here is the blub:

OK, so I’ve given a very condensed shout out about the news, and more of my opinion then is probably needed. Here’s the official word from Ward:

As much as I LOVE the BDB series where it is now, and as much as I'm psyched to keep writing it and will continue to do so, I miss the good ol' days.

The issue is that the nature of a series is that it must continue to grow, and change, or it dies. The Black Dagger Brotherhood books started off with the original Brothers, but after their meet-and-greets with their shellans were told, by definition, they had to background it in subsequent books: With a world as big as the BDB one, you have to train your "camera lens" in a controlled manner, or you run the risk of a given story bleeding out for too much extraneous stuff.

(Something I've been tagged with doing from time to time, and it's certainly a fair point.)

So when my boss (my editor) and I were chewing on things last spring, I told her... hey, I got this idea.

I have a lot of ideas. She's used to this.

I described to her a new series, where the BDB training center is reopened to a new cast of recruits, and THE ORIGINAL BROTHERS teach these FNUGs wassup. In the process of the new recruits falling in love and getting into a sh*t ton of trouble, THE ORIGINAL BROTHERS could be shown with their shellans, their Brothers, their people in the mansion, in a more prominent way than I'm able to do in the BDB books.

Paperback, yo. Not hardcover. Traditional PNR, just like DARK LOVER was in the old days.

Sex. Lot of sex.

As in, you might need your BBQ tongs. Maybe a flame retardant suit.

Maybe a fire truck on standby out in your front yard.

My boss, who's brilliant, was like, wow, that really doesn't suck. (Okay, that's paraphrasing.)

So... we have the first of the Black Dagger Legacy books, BLOOD KISS, coming out this December.

Now, let me say this: the ORIGINAL BROTHERS are still going to show up in the BDB books. Hell, yeah! And from time to time, a BDB book is going to be about them and their mate if there's a big thing going on in their lives (think THE KING.) I am NOT taking a step away from the Brothers at all- if anything, I'm bringing them further to the forefront with the Black Dagger Legacy books.

But I miss my boys :( I want to show you where they're at. I want to take you back to them- in their new roles as... well, role models and teachers.

Before you ask, yes, they will still be colossal a&&holes- I mean, let's be clear. Things haven't changed THAT much. (As an aside, Doc Jess and I were talking the other day, and she was like, I'm so impressed with your ability to be offensive with your heroes. LOLOLOLOL)

This is not to say that the Black Dagger Legacy books will solely be about the Brothers, however. The book will have a lot of the Brothers in them, but the Legacy books will feature a main romance between a couple, and the Brothers will help that along.

Jeez, I gotta be insane for signing up for this. Can you imagine V offering dating advice? "Well, sh*t, just get her some black candles and dog collar, true? Then order her to pop up her ***** **** * * ******* * * * ************** At that point, you're going to want to inform her, that you'll tell her when she can beg."

Personally I am a little sad it doesn’t feature her face. The Charlie Madigan covers are some of the few that I love seeing the leads face on.

Pretty sure it’s still Pocket Books publishing it, but there’s no official page on Amazon and the Goodreads one is pretty bare. (I actually had to link The Cold Light of Day to the series.) Last I heard from the author they were in talks for more books with the publisher, so we’ll just assume.

Lastly is Kelly Gay’s “Kelly Keaton” news for her Young Adult series Gods & Monsters. Heart of Stone, the 4th book, officially released February 17th. You can now get it!! Got mine!

But really I respect authors who self-pub to keep the series going. To be honest I’m still bitter and generally worried anytime I don’t think a series is getting steam. (Jenna Black. Especially that Faeriewalker ending.)

So this is the long awaited Immortals After Dark (Amazon | Goodreads) gossip fans have been salivating for. Personally I’ve been really nervous, it used to be the first news Cole fans got in the Newsletters. Now . . . it feels like ages. And it’s not really . . . news.

However, the positive part that is news:

Early December!

That is the planned release date for the next IAD book! Yeah!!

So the none news is that Cole isn’t releasing which couple is next. The fact is that Cole isn’t sure. She’s writing on more than one story. There’s a lot of arcs and places to go and personally that makes since. I’ve always wondered if she has some kind of giant outline with multiple plot lines overlapping. Because the books do.

From her newsletter, it feels like she has a ton going. Because there is a ton of overlapping. If I think about all the books in the series that overlap, my head spins! Let alone writing all of those! Go Cole!

She is saying that fans will learn more about the Accession and Nix’s mysterious past! Which thrills me as the last book gave fans a cool sneak peak into Nix and the Goddesses of IAD.

So who are you hoping will get the next book? Hmm?

For me it’s a certain twin, despite not liking his brother’s story, that was one heck of cliffhanger!

Author Gossip: Lish McBride

This is more of a shameful post. But before I get booed remember last year how my blogging suffered and I kind of dropped off of the bookish world for a while. Well I missed a lot of things.

So now that I’m getting things together again I’ve browsing books I missed last year. More importantly I’m trying to find all the shiny new books coming out this year.

After spending about a month adding 2015 releases (so sorry to my Goodreads friends, those were a lot of updates). Then I started looking at some of my favorite authors and how I desperately wanted some new books from them.

So there’s one author I felt horrible for missing especially since I’m foaming at the mouth for the next book from her.

Lish. McBride.

If you’re not familiar with this fabulous author—shame on you!! No. Just kidding.

Not really.

Lish McBride is the author of the fabulous Necromancer books. They’re amazing. When I read Hold Me Closer, Necromancer (Amazon | Goodreads) I had no idea what I was in for. Especially since it had the old cover on it, cheesy and underwhelming is what I had prejudged the book as. Despite amazing, glowing, and worshipping reviews from many a good Goodreads friend.

So imagine my surprise when Hold Me Closer, Necromancer swept me off my feet. Before I turned to page 5 it was to my delight that this book was . . . FREAKING EPIC. Thank goodness the next book was already coming out in two months. Because McBride had turned me into her devoted follower. After finishing Necromancing the Stone (Amazon | Goodreads) I would have signed away my soul in my own blood for the next entry.

Three years later that is still how I feel. So it’s probably a good thing that for a while I was out of my book obsessing last year. Because the “filler” spot for the third book in the Necromancer series vanished. It’s no longer there on Goodreads.

Instead I was dumbfounded to see some random book for a new series. (Just today, well Saturday is actually when I’m writing this.) Then something like this happen:

Rubs eyes. Heavy breathing starts. Face turns read. Yelling transpires, “Firebug? Firebug!!! WTF! Screw you!”

Frantic pacing begins, followed by what I will grudgingly admit was a stomping fit. (There were witnesses and they assured me that’s exactly what I did.) More yelling. (All right, screamed swear words.) After which I had to sit down with my head between my legs and inform people that I was OK.

It took a few moments for the ray of light to shine down, and the the heavenly music. A new book! It was already out!

So for those of you who have missed it I come bearing the news.

McBride has a new two book series called Firebug (Amazon | Goodreads) and the first book is already out. It takes place in the same universe as the Necromancer world. It’s just on a different coast. At some point it’s going to tie into the Necromancer books. So hopefully leading up to new ones them.  In the authors own words about the Firebug books:

So the books that are scheduled feature a main character named Ava who is a firebug (she can start fires with her MIND.). Because of what she is, she's been forced to become an assasin for a mob family-style group. I know this doesn't sound funny, but I promise you that it is still a humor based storyline.

So exciting! Because I have total faith that she can make it humorous.

Still I’m a little sad about having to wait longer for more Necromancer books. But here’s the rest of the details:

I am planning on doing another Sam book (the end of Necromancing the Stone is NOT the end of his story at all.) I'm just going to do these first. There are a lot of reasons why we did it this way. Because I hate you and I want you to suffer. Okay, not really. I love you guys. So for the real reasons: First, the publisher would like to see how the Sam books do. Understandable. They also wanted to make sure I got a break. Reasonable. And honestly, I've also been thinking of ways to pull these guys together, and I think that I've come to the conclusion that these stories need to happen first. I think long run you guys will be happy, but I completely understand that to some of you this will bring all the Bad Feels. My apologies for this.

Personally I’m nervous about this whole “the publisher would like to see how the Sam books do.” Gosh I hope the numbers are good enough for them.

For those of you who have not read these book go forth and do so!! I don’t want another fabulous series to die before it’s time. Though from all the buzz on Goodreads I have a feeling good luck is on McBride’s side.

Well! Well! Well! (Maleficent moment.) Kelly Gay, AKA Kelly Keaton, happens to be one of my favorite authors! I’ve been frantically stalking for information about her Charlie Madigan series (Goodreads | Amazon). It’s made me nervous as she’s always planned to have more books after the 4th one in the series. But poor Gay has been “currently awaiting news on additional books” and I’ve been nervous since the last one came out 2012. (Because I WANTS IT SO BAD!)

Then her YA series Gods & Monsters (Goodreads | Amazon), under Kelly Keaton, was last released in 2013. So now to the whole point of my rambling.

• The title Jinn and Juice is the original name that Peeler came up with, and she even admits that it is a throw back to the 90s.

This is actually kind of funny because one of my blog readers was asking me questions about Ilona Andrews duo posting chapters and previews of their Innkeeper Chronicles. (Yes, read all my emails. Love them!) So here is for you. While doing my usual browse I stumbled upon the news that there are currently two chapters up for Sweep in Peace, the second book of the Innkeeper Chronicles! Check them out at the series official page, here.

Also, you can check out the authors current plans as of there book schedules and what not. Man are they busy-busy writers. Sending my well wishes that they’re feeling better.

After getting a peek at the cover and blurb for The Beautiful Ashes, the first book in Jeaniene Frost’s Broken Destiny series, I’ve been really interested in her YA debut. Magic Steal’s, a novella for the Kate Daniels’ universe is officially completed! Die hard fans will not want to miss it! It will be featured in the anthology Night Shift (Amazon | Goodreads). There are some other amazing authors included in the anthology such as Nalini Singh, Lisa Shearin, and Milla Vane (AKA Meljean Brook). Should be released on November 25th, 2014.

Also, while I’m thinking about Ilona Andrews news. Is anyone else totally jazzed that Kate Daniels’ books 8 to 10 are on Goodreads? I know they said on their blog that it’s official. But somehow seeing them all shiny and waiting makes it real!

Kelley Armstrong’s Women of the Otherworld series (Amazon | Goodreads) has been over for a while now. But fans should know that there actually are some deleted scenes of their favorite books. Armstrong just posted about some for Broken (Amazon | Goodreads). Now I used to be one of those readers who hated deleted scenes and short stories. They used to be sad excuses for publisher to make money off of fans. However, I’ve found with many favorite series, and authors, that they can be so valuable. So here they are: “the one about the pregnancy test” and “the one where Elena & Nick play parents-to-be”.

Horngate Witches series, by Diana Pharaoh Francis, has some exciting news! (Amazon | Goodreads) Seemed as though Pocket Books, a division of Simon & Schuster, would not be continuing the series. (Which sadly happens to a lot of good series. T.A. Pratt’s Marla Mason books anyone?) Now Samhain Publishing is officially contracting two more books for the series, which I’ve confirmed on the author’s blog! The titles are Bone Dreams and Stone Thaw, which will be written in 2015. No release dates are being put out there as of yet. Congrats to Francis! (And get well wishes to boy, who’s sadly still sick. Hope he feels better soon.)
