"If you were given the chance to spend one day in a fictional world (from a book), which book would it be from and what would that place be?"

Most of the fictional worlds I read about I’d probably be the dead body that pops up at the beginning as the murder mystery that needs to be solved. So if I’m going to be in one of those fictional worlds for a day, I’d like kick ass powers and fighting skills.  After all tough as nails chicks with cool fighting skills are a required need for most Urban Fantasy and PNR.  (Well, for most PNR they may require you to obtain a hot male lead to bond with and save your damsel butt all the time.)

It’s a hard choice.  I’d want to be in Jeanine Frost’s Night Huntress world so I could totally go all fan girl on Bones.  Pretty sure Cat would beat me to a pulp in a couple of pages. Rob Thurman’s Cal Leandros world has two of my biggest fictional hotties and again I’d fan girl all over the two brothers.  The Hollow universe by Kim Harrison enchants me to no end.  It’s the to leading ladies I’d love to visit with.  It might be a little weird, but I really want to style Rachel Morgan’s hair.

In the end it would have to be the Immortals After Dark series that I would want to visit.  All of the mythology is just too much of a temptation, and if I got a yummy immortal mate while site seeing the myths all the more!!

Book Blogger Hop "If you find a book you love, do you hunt down other books by the same author?"

Of course!!  Once I find a good author I’ve got to milk them dry.  That’s not saying I haven’t been burned by a few authors, but there are some that no matter what they write I just fall at their feet in worship.

Richelle Mead is an author who never disappoints me.  Her Georgina Succubus books tickled my naughty since of humor. Vampire Academy stirs up enough drama to make me order her books a year in advance.  Sure I’ll be the first to admit her Dark Swan series isn’t as great as the others, but she adds fairies to her list of awesome things she writes about.

Succubus BluesVampire Academy Signature Edition: A Vampire Academy NovelStorm Born (Dark Swan, Book 1)

Mead isn’t the only author I would blindly follow; Rob Thurman, Gail Carson Levine, Robin Mckinley, Rachel Caine, and so many more.  A lot of authors really do keep the good stuff coming.  Amen to that!

Nightlife (Cal Leandros, Book 1)The Two Princesses of Bamarre (rpkg)Beauty: A Retelling of the Story of Beauty and the Beast Ill Wind (Weather Warden)

Alright there is no BBH up yet, so I’m not sure if there will be one.  However, in the spirit of BBH I’ve decided to keep the babbles going.  Instead of a question, I’m going to share some awesome movie trailers of some movies I’m just drooling over!!

It’s been driving me crazy who they were going to pick to play the Green Lantern, and I have to say they picked the right guy!

Camelot junkies raise the roof!!!  It’s stuff like this that makes me wish I had cable.

"If you could physically put

yourself into a book or series…

which one would it be and

why?"

This is a tough one! There's just to many books that by the time I’m done reading them I’m fantasizing about them, maybe even dreaming about them a bit.

To be honest a lot of the books I read are kind of dark and dangerous I’m not sure if I’d want to live in a world where I might not survive the next page turn.  But hey if I can get transported into the book, then I can be a kick ass heroine. Right?

The Immortals After Dark series by Kresely Cole comes to mind.  Cool chicks to befriend, and hot yummy men a plenty waiting to find their soulmates.  Said yummy men, are loaded with cash and ready to make me happy!! Not to mention the awesomeness that’s waiting in the sack. Ah-em.

Then again there’s the constant torture and torment.  The end of the world and battles going on constantly.

Though that was my first choice when I thought about it.  My definite choice would have to be the realm of Harry Potter.  Come on who doesn’t want a magic broom and a wand to go with it.  I was one of the many kids that was captivated by Hogwarts and if I could I would totally attend!!

"Who's your all-time favorite

book villain?"

Ooo.  This is a toughy! Evil villains in the cinema are an obsession of mine and I love picking favorites. (Ursula cough, cough.)  So picking a favorite villain from my reading list is like asking me to pick between coffee or dark chocolate—painful and quite unwilling to do so.

The one villain that has haunted me after turning the last page—thankfully I’ve never had nightmares about—is Rob Thurman’s mirror lurking body thief from Nightlife.  This creature is the male version of a Banshee.  That doesn’t sound scary, right?  Well get this, he can travel through mirrors and reflections with no problem with nothing to stop him.  He’s built like a scary ass monster; you can see his veins through nearly translucent skin, nasty claws and teeth and he can pretty much dice up anything.  On top of that, he can take control of anyone's  body.

This isn’t normal body take over, where the person who was originally there gets pushed back into the background in a little mind box.  Instead he merges with the person he’s jumped into.  He knows everything you’ve ever thought or experienced, and you get to know everything he’s thinking.  You have know will to feel that you’re being controlled or to fight back, you no longer exist. He is you and you are him.

Just gives me shivers thinking about it. If you haven’t checked out Thurman’s books you really should.  Here’s my review for Nightlife, which is still one of my favorite reads.  The mirror lurker isn’t the only evil villain and the other ones are almost just as creepy.

Weekly Overview:

  • Posted my first, and only, In My Mailbox Vlog for Febuary!  Got tons of goods and you can watch me embarrass myself talking over naughty covers.
  • Author Gossip was really great featuring news about some hot author—as usual. Including Cassandra Clare’s first chapter of City of Fallen Angels!  Plus I had some yummy covers to share too, with one of the most stunning Epic Fantasy covers I have seen in a long time.
  • Found some awesome books to wish and hope for on Wednesday Wishes!
  • Another Cover Coveting and this time I’ve got the download on Jenifer Estep’s new YA series and the hot cover that goes with it!
  • This is the week of yummy covers!  9 new covers that are all stunning and it includes the much anticipated reveal of the next book in the Beautiful Creatures series.

As you can see I’ve got the hang of doing the Cover Coveting live, and I will be keeping it that way.  Though I thick I’ll make the images slightly smaller so the download time will be faster for viewers with a slower internet.  Plus, expect my reviews to come back now that I’ve got a hold of the new feature.

"Do you ever wish you would

have named your blog

something different?"

Answering this question feels like a betrayal to my blog.

It took me forever to come up with a name for my blog.  Stuff like Book Blog, Urban Fantasy Corner, Epic Fantasy Books, and silly stuff like that with lots of variations with the word Fantasy in it.  After a while I decided to settle on something that would leave space for my blog to expand out side of my obvious love of Urban and Epic Fantasy.

The name Book Whispers doesn’t seem to have any variations from other bloggers so I’m really happy that way.  Sometimes I wish I would have picked something catchy like Fantasy Times or Fantasy Reader, but in the end I think I’m really satisfied with my title.

There is one name that I kind of still wonder “what if.”  Books and the Country.  Personally I think it rocks, but I was going to name my blog The Unicorn Collector before Book Whispers plopped into my head.  Clearly my blog naming skills may need some work.

Weekly Overview:

It has all the grandeur of the finest UF, and all the hot edgy romance of some of the best PNR out there.

  • Some fun titles on Wednesday Wishes, I’m really excited by all the great series.
  • My first official Cover Coveting post!!  The New Covers portion of Author Gossip will be going live, so new covers will be posted ASAP!  There are tons of yummy covers to see on this first Cover Coveting.
  • Another Cover Coveting because the cover for Vanished by Sophie Jordan is out!  It looks so beautiful.

Hope you’ve all been having a great week!!  Now I’m off to the Hop

"What book(s) would you like to see turned into a movie?"

None.

Don't get me wrong I love watching books that get turned into movies.  Especially when they are really well done.  However, I hate it when they butcher the plot and the characters.  For instance I'm beyond excited to watch the City of Bones on the big screen, but if they change the plot for the sake of the movie I'll be one upset fan.   In the end I couldn't put one of my favorite reads on chopping block.

"What book are you most looking forward to seeing published in 2011?  Why are you anticipating that book?"

This one is so hard to answer, usually the books just pile up in my head.  If I had to be honest there is one image that pops into my head and makes my heart go all a flutter.

The Gathering (Darkness Rising, Book 1)

Kelley Armstrong’s Darkest Power trilogy rocked me world and I still believe it will be one of the hardest series to beat.  I’ve read other young adult short stories by Armstrong and I absolutely love them.  So I have faith that out of all the reads this year that The Gathering will not disappoint me.

Overview:

  • In My Mailbox Vlog I found a lot of goodies and actually got a couple of ACRs.
  • Author Gossip had some yummy new covers both US and foreign.  Kim Harrison had some changes in her tour dates for Pale Demon and some extra tidbits.
  • Reviewed The Ghost and the Goth, which was a read that quite surprised me.
  • Wednesday Wishes only has two books this week, but they’re both yummy new covers.
  • Tempest Rising’s review is up!  It just as awesome as it’s cover and I highly suggest that readers check this debut novel out.
  • Really happy to post my review of Blue Bloods which turned out to be quite different then I had imagined it.

Well I’m off to the Hop!

"Why do you read the genre that you do? What draws you to it?"

Currently my main genres are Urban Fantasy and Epic Fantasy.   There's always some quotes or another that states that reading is an escape from reality, and I whole heartily agree.  My theory is if you want to escape, escape far enough away that reality is altered.

The idea of vampires stalking humans, wolves howling at the moon, and caldron's bubbling has always been a fascination with me.  So it's only natural that I would want my literary escape to include them.  When Urban Fantasy was hard to come by way back when, I took refuge in Epic Fantasy.   Both of my preffered sub genres can be thrillers, mystery, comedies, adventures, romance, myths, and so much more.  Often they even mix all plains of genres together.

Reality is only best escaped with a good fiction book.

"What do you consider the most important in a story: the plot or the characters?"
Both.
That is not a far question.  To make a book both have to be there in great amounts.   The most memorable books that float in my mind long after it’s shut are the books that had amazing plots, that were heavily accented by the amazing character depth.   A book isn’t truly a good read with out the other.

Ah, it feels so good to not be sick and back to regular posts. I feel so bad I missed last weeks Hop, which sounded like a ton of fun.

"If you find a book that looks interesting but is part of a series, do you always start with the first title?"

Hecks yes!!  It drives me insane if I don't start out with book one.  When you skip around willy-nilly like I feel that I'm missing something from the series.  There's a reason they're numbered and have an order.  Personally I don't want to miss out on the emotional build up the author has worked so hard to create, or get dumped into some big plot that I can't appreciate because I wasn't there from the beginning. Plus, I don't feel it's far for my reviews--fairness is the name of the game!

Weekly Overview:

Again sorry to everyone who missed out on the posting, and thank you to all of those who gave me get well posts/emails.  It means a lot.  So you'll all be happy to know I'm back up to health, and I'm starting to gain weight.  Never thought I'd be so happy to gain weight.
  • Lips Don't Lie: Author Gossip was packed with hot new covers, question and answers for the author Kaylana Price. (Who's book I just finished, Grave Witch! If the exclamation point didn't tip you off I'll be writing a review for this later.)
  • Wednesday Wishes I was playing a little catch up, because even if you can't get up because your so sick there are always books to lust after.
Slim pickings this week but I'll be up and posting to normal like usual.  Keep an eye out because I have reviews to catch up on so there might be a review attack coming up. I'll try and keep it so I don't post reviews and regular posts on the same day.

"Where is your favorite place to read? Curled up on the sofa, in bed, in the garden?"

If I can read there, it's my favorite spot.  Still I end up sitting in my new glider chair, in bed, or in the car the majority of the time.  Personally I'd like to be able to take my glider any where so I can just curl up and read.

I also love reading while sun tanning/bathing.  Whether it's in the forest or on the beach!
